Beginning A New Stage of Life

Joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology today. The appointment order arrived only at 11:15 a.m, luckily, I had completed filling up the joining report, mediclaim, Provident fund, and such other forms earlier. So it just took another 30 minutes to complete the rest of the formalities. ‘A’ at the administrative section was very co-operative and there wasn’t much delay. After getting a signature from the associate dean (The dean wasn’t available), I reported to our Head of the Department at 12:15 P.M. In the afternoon attended a Satyanarayana Pooja performed by a newlywed couple and had a sumptuous meal. The afternoon was spent in the Department getting acquainted with the staff members; my awkwardness at introductions must have been plainly obvious.

I submitted the joining letter to the administrative office at 4 in the evening and signed my staff identity card and was told that it will be laminated and sent to the department. I was also asked to get a photo identity card from the post office for the Medical council of India purposes. So in the evening I went along with my wife to locate the post office and also the telephone department.

I have been allotted staff quarters, which are very near to the college campus and I am planning to shift there by the weekend. Visited the allotted flat in the evening and there are a few repairs that need to be done, also there are a few pieces of furniture that I require to be removed and a few to be brought in. I was told to write letters to the dean regarding the same by the maintenance staff. Along with shifting come the problems of telephone connections and also gas for the kitchen. I need to find out about the Gas supply agency and how to shift my existing connection to the new supplier.

All in all today was a very hectic and tiring day and so will the next few days be.
